DRIVER CPC Training

Driver CPC stands for ‘Certificate of Professional Competence’ and was introduced across the EU to maintain high driving standards and improve road safety. Driver CPC is continuing professional development for lorry drivers and carries on throughout your driving career.

From now on, any drivers of lorries over 3.5 tonnes need a Driver CPC to drive for a living.

If you are a lorry driver and held your vocational licence before 10 September 2009 you have acquired rights (i.e. you currently hold a Driver CPC) until 9 September 2014. However, you’ll need to complete35 hours periodic trainingbefore this date to keep your Driver CPC and continue driving professionally.

The deadline for completing Driver CPC Training for LGV drivers is 9th September 2014.

Completing the Training

To complete at least 35 hours’ periodic training every five years it is recommended to complete one day per year, or you can do all of your training at once, or spread it out across the five years. But don’t leave it too late, it’s important that you allow yourself enough time to complete your training within each five-year cycle.

The training is designed to help you in your day to day work covering topics including:

• fuel-efficient and defensive driving techniques
• first aid and health and safety
• legal requirements, including drivers’ hours regulations and tachographs

Courses will complement your existing skills. There are no exams or tests. You are not expected to pass or fail, just to add the knowledge to your existing experience.

The minimum length of a training course that counts towards the 35 hours training time is 7 hours (full day course), however you can combine two 3 1/2 hour modules (half day course).

Training at your business

We will travel to any business in the UK to deliver training, providing all of the equipment; we just need a room that is suitable for training and refreshments for the drivers.

If you can’t provide a room, don’t worry we can find a suitable venue close to you.

Training for individuals

We provide Courses for individual drivers to book on subject to demand. Locations include:

Birmingham and Walsall.

If you can join up with a number of friends to form a group of 6 plus then we can provide a course at a suitable location at a date of your choice.

Driver CPC Training Consortium

If you have a large fleet of vehicles with your own trainers we can provide you with bespoke, quality training material and unrivalled support to enable you to deliver the full 35 hours of CPC training in-house.

We can work with you to ensure that you complete the training, with courses that are stimulating, worthwhile and make a measurable difference to you and your business.
